1. Comino Blue Lagoon Boat Trip

Take a day trip to visit Malta’s stunning Blue Lagoon

Let’s start this list of the best day trips in Malta with a boat trip to the shimmering waters of the famous Blue Lagoon.  A visit here is an absolute must and one of the best things I think that make Malta worth visiting.  Located on Comino, the smallest of the three main islands that make up the county of Malta, there is plenty more to enjoy as well as a swim in the stunning azure water.

When the crowds at the Blue Lagoon get too much (and it does get very busy in peak summer), head to the quieter, but equally beautiful, Crystal Lagoon.

On my trips to Comino, I’ve enjoyed taking a walk across the interior of Comino, where you’ll come across only a handful of other people on the mostly uninhabited paradise island.  There are old buildings, like the chapel, tower and military battery, and the beach and caves of Santa Maria to visit.

Day Trip

Book an organised boat trip to the Blue Lagoon to be taken there and back with minimum effort and optional BBQ included.  The Malta: Blue Lagoon, Beaches & Bays Trip by Catamaran has thousands of positive reviews and a near perfect 4.7 out of 5 rating. It’s one of the most popular day trips in Malta.

Do It Yourself

It’s possible to visit the Blue Lagoon independently, by ferry.  Check out my article on how to get to Malta’s Blue Lagoon for all the details.

To explore a different side of Malta, take a day trip to Gozo Island, Malta’s more rural sister island. Gozo is known for its scenic landscapes, ancient temples, and local villages.  I love Gozo, it’s an idyllic island, with stunning beaches, where the pace of life seems to slow, and the air feels fresher. There are also plenty of spots to get wonderful Gozo Instagram shots.

One of the best ways to discover Gozo is by tuk-tuk, a three-wheeled motorised vehicle that can navigate the narrow streets and off-road trails. You’ll get to enjoy panoramic views of the island, visit hidden gems, and learn about local life from your friendly driver.
