Flip Flops Included is a travel blog that publishes travel guides and itineraries offering insights, tips and useful information for travellers.  The blog is based on personal experience and meticulous travel research.  Over a decade working as an Operations Manager at one of the world’s leading Universities has provided me with vast experience in planning and organisation.

For as far back as I can remember I’ve been interested in the stories of other people, in hearing about other ways of living, doing and being and celebrating both the similarities and the differences.

I love the sound of languages I don’t understand being spoken – like a beautiful song, you don’t always have to understand the words to get the meaning. Some might say I took this to extremes when I married my husband, ‘Mi Amor’, who hails from Cuba. Thankfully my Spanish has improved in the decade-plus that we’ve been together.

I consider myself fortunate to be a resident of the historic international city of Cambridge, UK. Not only is Cambridge a gorgeous place to spend a day but it’s also where I’ve met friends from around the globe who’ve often inspired my trips.

Travel fulfils and excites me.  It has also helped me to work through some of those tough times in life. You can’t outrun what’s going on in your mind but the unknown promise of an adventure sure can give you a reason to get up in the morning.

Experience

I travel exclusively without a car and have been to many places where people said it wouldn’t be possible by public transport, only to find out that it’s totally doable (a wonderful trip to explore Loch Lomond without a car is a great example). I include information in my articles on ways to get around which I hope helps with your own journey.

I’ve been travelling and exploring the globe for over 25 years.  Whilst I’ve been all over the place, this website is focused mainly on European and UK destinations.  I also provide Latin American content, as my husband is from Cuba so I’ve been visiting Latin America regularly for over a decade and experiencing it from a non-typical tourist point of view.

Of all the European destinations I’ve visited, it’s hard to pick a favourite as each new place brings excitement. However, Malta and Italy are two of my most treasured places to return to, with centuries of history, mouth-watering food and miles of sparkling blue sea to swim in. Of course, as a long-time resident of Cambridge, UK, you’ll also find great local information on what to do in Cambridge here.

When I plan a trip I love to research fun local activities and combine these with some time for rest and relaxation.  That’s why you’ll see plenty of information about the best beaches and also interesting things to do, some of which are a little on the extreme side (for example sandboarding in Huacachina, Peru) but plenty are less hair-raising (like hiking Mount Epomeo on the Italian island of Ischia).

I hope my tips, information and example itineraries will encourage and inspire you to book your next trip, close to home or further afield. This blog is a celebration of travel, of people, places and a spirit of adventure, that I owe 100% to my late Mum.  Everywhere I travel will forever be dedicated to her, PB this one is always for you.

Much love to you all x
