Uber is a well-known taxi app, so wondering if there’s Uber in Stockholm is a popular question about travelling around Stockholm.  The good news is that Uber is available in Stockholm.

Similar to Uber in London, and other European destinations like Cambridge and Madrid, Uber is available to use in Stockholm in 2025 and it’s a convenient option for getting around this popular Scandinavian destination.

I’ve used Uber in loads of locations around the world, including Uber in Glasgow and Uber in Malta.

Where Else Does Uber Operate in Sweden?

As well as Stockholm, Uber Sweden operates in four other places in the country.  You can order an Uber in Gothenburg, Malmö, Västerås and Östergötland.

Is Uber in Stockholm Better Than Other Taxi Apps?

Uber started in Stockholm in 2014, which is a lot longer than it’s been established in some other European locations, like Malta.  However, as Stockholm is known as being a tech hub it’s not surprising that Uber isn’t the only taxi app available in town.  Bolt is also a popular taxi app in Stockholm, along with local options.

The Uber and Bolt apps both provide the functionality to pre-book a taxi in advance (depending on your route) as well as book at the time of travel, which can be very handy. 

One of the benefits of using Uber in Stockholm is the wide choice of vehicle for your journey.  You can select one of three types of premium cars; Black, Business Black and Lux.  Economy options include Uber Comfort, Green, X, XL and Business Comfort.

As well as riding yourself, you can also use Uber to deliver a package across the city or travel with your pet.

With around 2.5 million people living in Stockholm and millions of tourists visiting yearly on top of that, taking an Uber offers a personal alternative to sharing crowded public transport, if that’s important for you.

As well as the international taxi apps, Taxi Stockholm is a popular local taxi app that’s long been established in Stockholm, with over 1400 cars.  One of the advantages of Taxi Stockholm is that you can choose to pay in person with cash or card at the end of the journey, which you can’t do with Uber.

Sverigetaxi, the self-proclaimed biggest taxi firm in Sweden, is another local alternative to Uber in Stockholm and has a huge number of cars, with over 2,700 moving all over Sweden.

Uber in Stockholm Price – Is it Cheaper Than Local Taxis?

Although in many cities Uber has a reputation for being cheaper than standard taxis, you will find that prices may not be so different when using Uber Stockholm.  One of the reasons for this is that drivers with Uber in Stockholm must register their vehicle and obtain a taxi licence and insurance. 

However, the Uber taxi app pricing is dynamic and changes according to demand.  So, to find the cheapest price for your journey you’ll need to enter your destination on the Uber app and on the other apps for taxis (or with the quoted fare) and compare the live prices.

Using Uber to Get to Stockholm Airports

One of the key journeys you may need to make when visiting Stockholm is getting to (or from) from one of the airports in Stockholm.  Whilst there are other options, like airport buses, ordering an Uber can save you time and be more convenient when travelling with luggage.

Taking an Uber when you’ve just arrived and are still getting acclimatised to a new city can be a stress-free way of arriving at your location.

However, getting from Stockholm airports to the city centre via taxi is not always affordable.  An Uber or taxi will cost from around £41/$53 to £56/$72 from Stockholm Arlanda airport to the centre.  Instead, you can take the express train direct from Arlanda airport to Stockholm central, from only £16/$21 per person.

Is Stockholm Uber the Only Way to Take a Taxi in Stockholm?

Uber is not the only option for taxis in Stockholm.  As well as Uber Stockholm, there are several other international and national taxi apps which are popular. 

Of course, you don’t have to use a taxi app at all to get a taxi in Stockholm.  There are the local licenced Stockholm taxis, which have yellow number plates.  These taxis can be booked via your accommodation or hailed on the street. 

What is the Best Way to Get Around Stockholm?

Although you can take an Uber in Stockholm, public transport is very good and there are plenty of other ways to move around the city.  You can walk or use one of these transport options:

• Amphibious bus

• Escooter/ebike – rent from one of the apps, like Voi.
• Tram
• Metro – download the Stockholm Public Transport app for all the details and to buy tickets.
• Bus – there’s an effective bus and metro network in Stockholm, which will get you to most of the key places in central Stockholm.
• Boat – take a ferry or boat tour to one of Stockholm’s many islands.
• Bike hire

Are Taxis Expensive in Stockholm?

Stockholm has a reputation as being an expensive European city in general, so compared to the prices of other goods and services in Stockholm the cost of taking a taxi in Stockholm is not particularly disproportionately expensive.

However, taxi prices are pricier compared to most UK cities and Stockholm is one of the top ten most expensive places to take an Uber in the world.  Additionally, as taxi apps like Uber use dynamic pricing if there is strong demand the cost may be higher than at other times. 

It’s also helpful to be aware that taxis in Stockholm are deregulated which basically means taxis can charge what they like.  This could lead to a hefty bill at the end of your journey if you don’t ask for the price in advance. 

In Stockholm you don’t have to take the first taxi at a rank so if the price is too high for you, you can say no and check the price of the next one.

Pro Tip: To work out whether your Stockholm taxi ride is going to be expensive, check the rate card which standard taxi drivers must display in their vehicle.  This little yellow and white document, usually on the rear side window, will help you decide if your journey is within your budget.  The amount in big letters in the yellow section is the cost in Swedish krona for a 10 km, 15 minute journey. 

Do I Need to Speak Swedish to Use Uber in Stockholm?

Ordering a taxi in Stockholm using an app like Uber means that you don’t need to speak Swedish, as you programme in all your journey details directly in the app. 

That being said, my experience in Stockholm is that it’s a very international city and many people speak English.  So, if you don’t speak Swedish, you can always try talking to your taxi driver in another language and they may very well chat to you, making it a great way to find out local tips.

If you’re already a fan of Uber, the good news is that, since its launch in 2014, yes Stockholm does have Uber.

How Much Is An Uber Or Taxi From Stockholm Arlanda Airport To Central Stockholm?

A taxi taken from one of the official queues at Arlanda airport to the central Stockholm zone can only charge you the maximum fare of 750 SEK (£56/$72) for a taxi of up to 4 passengers and 1200 SEK (£90/$116) for 5 to 8 passengers.  This is part of the contract for working as a taxi at Arlanda airport.  These official Arlanda airport taxis are also only allowed to use eco-vehicles.  Taxi apps like Uber may be up to a couple of hundred krona cheaper.

How Much is a Taxi from Stockholm Bromma Airport to Central Stockholm?

Official taxis at Bromma airport must be eco-taxis.  Unlike Arlanda airport, a taxi from Bromma airport to central Stockholm does not have a maximum fare.  As taxis are deregulated in Sweden, they can charge you any price.  You can expect to pay around a few hundred krona for the trip from Bromma airport to central Stockholm via Uber or Bolt, depending on demand/time of day, and from around 460 SEK (£30/$48) when pre-booking with a local company like Taxi Stockholm.

The cost for an Uber or Bolt from Vasteras airport to the centre of Stockholm in 2025 is from around 1200 SEK (£90/$116).
